WADSWORTH - PECKET WELL

STONEY LANE, PECKET WELL

Jerry and Paul were surveying Stoney Lane today in an attempt to resolve a long standing drainage problem. Stoney Lane is the old packhorse route that loops its way around the back of Pecket Well village. From Keighley Road at the top end, the bridleway goes downhill, snakes round the rear of the Old Coop buildings and returns to the main road near Pecket Bar. The top end of this wide route is saturated with muddy pools of water particularly after rainfall:

Wellington boots only!

The water runs off the adjacent field and we managed to find a concrete outlet cover leaning against the wall under tufts of grass:

Where's the drainpipe?

Its a long wet stretch from this point down the bridleway, though the path is drier at the bottom end. Where it tends to veer off through a gap stile, we channeled the water to continue down the path. The trouble is that the water course occupies the middle of the path!

Hey, diddle-diddle. The drain's in the middle!

Further discussions at a local level will be needed to decide on the best way forward with this project. Have no doubts - we'll be back!

Survey and work funded by local donations. Many thanks.
