Today, RJ and Fred travelled to a stile near Dundee! Impressive journey but not quite as far as FH and JL who got to Egypt! (see other sections of today's blog)
CROWS had been asked to look at the stile and dog-gate on a very popular Cornholme route which is close to the newly built stile at Frieldhurst.
1. Stile and dog gate ... before! |
With repair work (as compared to newly built structures), unanticipated problems often appear. Today was no exception as it proved impossible to install the new 100 mm x 100 mm section post as deeply as desired. The problem was a massive boulder which could not be removed . . . even with the combined muscular efforts of RJ and Fred! Hence, plan B was concocted .... and here it is -
2. Stile and dog gate ... after! |
The end result is a solid structure with a dog-gate, a replaced upper tread-board and a stock-proof fence The existing upright to the stile was repacked as tightly as possible and a frail, rusty section of fence was replaced by rails.
3. RJ trying to implement plan B |
We may need to return to this stile. However, for the moment, it is safe, 'dog-friendly' and functional . . . but not very pretty!
Today's work has been funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
