There was a small team out today working at Bridestones and near Harleywood Gate.
Catherine, Neil M and Kasher dismantled the boardwalk at the entrance to Bridestones. We had worked on this boardwalk a couple of times in the last six months but one of the stringers finally gave way and the boardwalk had become unsafe.
1. The boardwalk to be replaced. |
2. Going, going... |
3. Gone.... and nails being removed from salvaged timbers. |
We have rescued as much of the timber as possible and will reuse it when we rebuild the boardwalk (hopefully next week).
We then moved onto Blackshaw 051 to clear a boardwalk and then to Blackshaw 050 to check and improve the drainage. Blackshaw 050 is now a well-walked path and is in good condition compared to last year when one needed waders rather than wellies to negotiate it.
4. Neil M clearing another boardwalk |
5. Drainage channels cleared. |
We used the opportunity when out to put up a number of notices related to the breeding season of ground nesting birds and the need to avoid disturbing the birds in this amazing habitat.
Today's work has been funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
