1. NORLAND below Gallows Pole Hill and, 2. KRUMLIN, Slack Lane

2 teams out today . A very frosty start but soon the thaw set in (again!).

1. NORLAND.

Ray and Jerry were  repairing a stile on the footpath running across the wall above the static caravan park on Norland Moor. The very helpful site manager allowed us to 'humph' the wood over their wall, which saved a lot of carrying!

The posts and rails were sound, but all that remained of the steps was a single stump!

Jerry pondering as the stile is nearly done.

The finished article complete with grab post and dog-gate. . . but a bit constrained by the original strainer posts!.

2. KRUMLIN

Meanwhile, across at Krumlin, Lynda and Eleanor were joined by the local resident who had reported the job to CROWS. i.e. to see if we could make some improvements to a heavily used and (certainly in winter) very muddy bridleway.

We had been hopeful that the causey stones that were evident at the beginning of the lane might continue under the mud and would be revealed with a bit of scraping, No such luck , although a hard surface was to be found under parts of the bridleway. Our helper Jak said she would return with some hardcore and try and fill in the worst hollows.

We dug out a couple of channels and created 'levees' to protect the bridleway and they seemed to help, but we concluded that it wasn't the best of conditions in which to do this type of work. A return in the summer is planned . . . when it's dried out a bit!

This work was funded by a grant from Ripponden Parish Council, and by individual donations. Many thanks.
