Edge Lane, Colden: Bits and pieces.
A half-session for Jan and Frank H to put the finishing touches to the stile that was worked on last week, and to complete a couple of additional tasks.
The stile:
The stile needed some extra horizontal rails, a lift type dog-gate and, in-keeping with good practice for a 3-step construction, a wider lower step . . . and here they are:
1. Wider lower step, extra cross-rails and a dog-gate. |
We also did some landscaping and could then stand back and admire. Not perfect (Frank's very picky!) but sturdy, stable, functional and durable.
Other tasks:
i) The fingerpost indicating the downhill direction of the right-of-way (Heptonstall 014) needed some adjustment. Here's the outcome:
1. Before: fingerpost on the lean . . . and pointing a bit too much downhill! |
2. After: in much deeper and vertical. Hope it lasts! |
ii) A short drive took us to Egypt ("Join CROWS and see the world?") where a treadboard on the stile leading to the right-of-way (Heptonstall 011) had become detached. Some drilling and four 'screw nail' did the trick. No photos taken because the threatened rain arrived.
Today's tasks were funded by donations from the Blackshaw Head Fell Race and from individuals. Many thanks.
