Today, a team of eight people were working around Stake Lane above Mytholmroyd. This was to further improve the 'Cragg Vale Coiners' route and some nearby paths.
Andrew, Nick and Kasher undertook a number of tasks along the track from Stake Farm to the footpath leading to Hollins Hey Bank (Hebden Royd 059). This included clearing of turnbys, opening up drainage ditches, improving stone steps and cutting back overgrown holly, bilberries and brambles.
1. Blocked ditches and turnbys. |
2. Ditches opened and water flowing. |
3. Andrew, Nick and a rainbow. |
We then moved onto Footpath Hebden Royd 062 from Stake Lane, past Stannery End and on towards Hollins Hey Bank. Here we put in a number of marker posts and improved the way-marking on this officially redirected footpath.
We joined Jerry and Jan for our break. They had been valiantly trying to improve the stone stile and steps through a tumbled down wall at the end of Hebden Royd 062. The work on these steps will certainly make it easier to negotiate the wall gap.
4. A sheltered lunch spot for Nick, Jerry, Andrew and Jan. |
6. The improved steps through the wall. |
5. Millstone grit 'jenga'! |
Meanwhile Eleanor, Frank S, and Ray were working on the lower part of Stake Lane. They worked gradually up the lane cutting back the encroaching brambles and holly and clearing the turnbys and drains.
7. A turnby with clearing in progress |
8. The stile with a new bottom step and holly clearing in progress |
There will be at least one more session on the paths between the Robin Hood and Hollins Hey Bank to improve the drainage, cut back holly and improve way marking.
Today's work was funded by a grant from Hebden Royd Town Council. Many thanks.
