TODMORDEN - Badger Wood again

A dry and at times bright day for our latest visit to Badger Wood. Ken and Neil M. made several improvements to the steep route through the wood, starting from the bridge we patched up earlier (see entry for 23 December). Firstly we fitted an edging plank, attached to the bridge, to protect the steep drop on the downhill side. We inserted a square marker post just at the top of the steps, and cut some tree growths hereabouts that were encroaching on the path.

This way up ... and up ... and up!

Working uphill we put in three further marker posts to clarify the route up the slope. Finally at the top where the route turns left alongside a wall, we attached a direction sign pointing down to make sure upland folk would know where to come and admire our handiwork. We also removed any overhanging straggly tree growths.

No twigs in your face here.
This way down!

Then it was off by car to Lumbutts Road to take out an old metal fingerpost that was neither use nor ornament. Ken and his angle-grinder made short work of this. An undramatic but we hope useful series of jobs to start off our Todmorden New Year.

With thanks as ever to our generous donors who enable us to keep on keeping on.
