On a very bright but extremely cold day (especially in the shade!) RJ and Fred returned to Tipside to repair a stile. This complicated stile is at the bottom of Tod 176.
Discussions were held on how to repair this stile which is up a slight bank and adjacent to a gap-stile in the wall. Replacing this stile with a gate would have been one option but as this field is regularly used by the landowner for sheep, this would not be ideal.
The wooden uprights to this stile were not secure and needed attention. Similarly a new leg was needed on the field stile of the stile. To ensure that the treadboard rested on something more substantial than thin air (!) the base of the stile underneath the lowest rail was filled with large stones (of which there were plenty to hand).
A new grab rail was added which will make this stile easier to use.

Today's work has been funded by individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
