LUDDENDEN

Small Jobs Day

Luddenden

As our contribution to Small Jobs Day, on a cold and frosty morning Linda H & Neil D set off from the depot to undertake path clearance work over in Luddenden, alongside the brook between Luddenden Foot and  Luddenden village.

The Luddenden Brookside path: Before - or is it after - we cut back some vegetation?

On arrival, we set off on foot to recce the job and soon realised that much of the overgrown vegetation reported on back in the summer had actually died back! This made our task easier although it did mean there was not much difference between our 'before' and 'after' shots!

Linda Lopping!

Job nearly done: a new waymark disc was nailed to the existing signpost to reassure locals,
and visitors alike, that the steps do indeed lead down to a public footpath by the brook.

Likewise, at the second location we visited, at the village end of the same brookside path, an overgrowing hawthorn hedge between a field and a neighbouring property had already been cut back.

Once again our task had already been done! Not by nature herself, but by a local resident . . . and the evidence was a pile of hawthorn branches and clippings in the said resident's garden! Many thanks for your efforts.

More satisfying work (and with fine views over the winter sunlit valley) was found in the afternoon.

Spirits levelled?: Neil checking the new post is vertical before ramming it home.

In between visits/interruptions from an over keen pack of dogs being taken on a walk by a professional dog walker (or was it vice versa?) - and before our fingers froze completely! - we managed to install a new waymark post at the crossroads of four paths on the edge of Midgely Moor overlooking Jerusalem Farm and Luddenden Dean. I'm sure the dogs will find it very handy too... ;-)

Work funded by donations to CROWS. Thank you!
