MYTHOLMROYD: Bell House Moor and Erringden Moor

Bell House Moor and Erringden Moor: the boardwalk's progress

A fruitful day! Rain; showery and heavy with the potential for thunder was forecast! What we got was clearing skies, increasing humidity and afternoon sunshine. Ideal conditions for construction work.

While Rich and Stella, laden with tools and timber, disappeared in the direction of Old Harry Lane to mark out the right-of-way, a gang comprising Ian S, Jan, Neil D, Ken, Paul, Ray and Frank H split into three teams; one to construct sections of boardwalk, one to extend the long run of boardwalk and one to tackle a technically tricky intersection of boardwalk.

Here's how we progressed:

1. Section construction.
The boardwalk already in
place makes an ideal
working platform.
2. Boardwalk extension. Bearer being
dug-in and levelled to receive the next
3.0 m section of boardwalk.

3. Boardwalk Junction! This section will run
right to left across the end of the main
boardwalk.
4. Boardwalk Junction! Sections (bottom left
to top right) making a junction with the
main run of boardwalk (right to left).
Mmm! Tricky!

5. Boardwalk Junction! easily taking the weight
of four volunteers!

There is more work to do here. One more session may be enough to:

*Extend the left 'wing' of the junction further to the left.
*Complete the steps leading into the right 'wing' of the junction
*Add more sections to the total length of the boardwalk.
*Tidy-up and landscape

Next Wednesday may be the day!
