Jan, Rich, Ken and Ray working on several jobs on the Pennine Way.
For about 15 years water has been seeping from a drain at the junction of the Pennine Way and the Calderdale Way. Today we attempted to work out how the water system actually functioned to see what could be done.

Firstly, Jan and Ray discovered where the top inspection pit was (now clearly visible) |

Meanwhile Ken and Rich tried (but failed!) to rod the outlet into one of the dams |

The pit was uncovered and bailed out with buckets to find the outlet pipe |

Sometimes you just have jump in (a risk assessment was done!) |
We discovered the outlet pipe which was completely clogged up. This will need a team with industrial standard equipment to clear the system . . . but at least they will know what they are dealing with.
We then went on to tackle a series of other jobs nearby.

Steps on the Pennine Way (both sides of the stream) all strimmed back |
On the riverside path there was a pool of water due to a drain being blocked.

Drain under large stone dug out . . . so no puddle any more! |
We then set about clearing the vegetation on the walled path from Ragley Road up to Shaw Bottom.

You would get very wet legs after rain! |

Cleared all the way down to Ragley Road |
Although we would have liked to have sorted the drainage issue, we will pass the details on to Natural England and Calderdale Highways who we hope will be able to deal with it . . . at long last!
All the work today was funded by these two bodies.
