ERRINGDEN - Pennine Way

After a minor detour towards Burnt Acre (whoops - a slight problem with map reading!) today's "strim and trim" team of Fred and Kasher tackled a causey path on the Pennine Way between Erringden 014 and Erringden 002. i.e. the path from Swillington to Lower Rough Head.

The overgrown causey path and, in
the distance, a famous landmark.

Fred starting to tackle the soft rush.

The causey path was overgrown with soft rush and would have been a nightmare to walk through on a wet day. The task was to cut-back the soft rush, thistles and tussock grass to make a clear route across the field.

Work in progress: the pathway revealed.
A fully cleared section of the causey stones.

To the accompanying sounds of hay-making; with views of swallows criss-crossing the sky, and many greetings from Pennine Way walkers, the team managed to get on top of the encroaching vegetation.

This task took longer than expected, so other strimming jobs which had been earmarked for today will be started next week . . . weather permitting.

Many thanks to the residents of Lower Rough Head who, by allowing us to park in their field, minimised the distance equipment had to be carried to the work area.

Today's efforts were funded by Natural England and Calderdale Council Highways.
