PENNINE WAY - Heptonstall Moor

Rich and Neil M (first session with CROWS) worked on the route from Mount Pleasant to Greenwood Lee Clough.

great path across Heptonstall moor

First job, at the junction of paths next to Greenwood Lee Clough, was to put in a tall waymark post. This was partly to indicate a junction but also to reassure PW walkers that they are on the correct route!

Post standing proud

We then worked on the stream-crossing to reduce the level of water on the path. The water channel was dug out with the sedge grass roots placed lower down so the flow of water would stay the same.

Not a completely dry crossing but OK in boots

While we were in the vicinity, we secured the tread board on the stile for the path that goes down the clough.

Then, all the way back to Mount Pleasant to install a low post at the junction of paths.

Must hold the camera straight in future!

A good session in good weather with a lot of people walking the PW and stopping for a chat.

The best bit was when one of them said the Calderdale section was in pretty good condition and had by far the best waymarking encountered so far - Hooray!!

The work today was funded by Natural England and Calderdale Council Highways.
