A team of RJ, Fred and Kasher worked on the footpath Tod 082 below West End (near Sourhall). This path regularly features on the CROWS "to do" list!
Background:
This footpath is between two walls with stiles at both ends. However the track is accessible to horses which are in the nearby fields.

Well! What do we try to do first? |
Task:
The team worked to reinstate the original drainage channel adjacent to the wall. This channel had silted up in places and the water had escaped onto the track. This drainage channel has a good stone base and once the silt and vegetation was removed the water flowed much more freely. The main problem with this drainage system was to be found at the end of the track where the horses moved from one field to another.

End Result:
After a day of moving mud, channelling water, creating ditches etc the water was flowing well. The track should dry rapidly which should make it easier to walk this route without having to resort to walking along the broken down wall or in the field. However we expect that the drainage issues have not been completely solved.

Not perfect but at least the water is off the FP. |
Additional Task:
Whilst in the area we also looked at the waymarkers across the moor from West End to Guide Quarry. All of the posts are loose and some are missing. These will need to be reinstated. All of the posts would benefit from a coat of yellow paint. This task has been added to the "to do' list.
The funding for today's work has come from Todmorden Town Council. Many thanks.
