The story
Broadhead Clough is a nature reserve run by West Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The path running through it is well used and it is part of Christopher Goddard's Coiners' walk. When 'Gallows Pole' is broadcast later this year, we expect that the path will get a large increase of users.
The route we are working on |
We have had several discussions with the Trust, trying to balance keeping the area as a wild place whilst bringing the path up to a standard that will cope with increased footfall.
Having got a plan, we were very grateful for the offer of funds from HEC electrical contractors based in Mytholmroyd.
Our first session
Six CROWS, two cars stuffed with tools and materials! Much of the work involves a long carry so ...........
Testing out a way of carrying two waymark posts |
Putting in steps
Graham L and Fred dealt with putting in steps up a slippery groove - not a simple job!
Last one to put in; three more needed on next session |
Path widening
Sections of the path are narrow and sloping. Frank S and Kasher worked on widening and levelling the first section - worked pretty well.
That should make things a little easier... |
Waymarking
Frank S and Kasher put in two new posts and re-seated an existing one.
Do we dig a new hole or haul out a huge rock? |
And where should this one go? |
Clearing a flight of steps
Richard J and Richard P scraped off a few years of mulch on some fine steps made out of sleepers.
Can you see the difference? (you would if you walked up them!) |
Work funded by HEC electrical contractors, with many thanks.
Second session planned for next week.
WADSWORTH PATH No 53 - CALDERDALE WAY
Work continued on this stretch of path above Shawcross Cottages where the CW winds its way up to the moor. Ray and Jan continued the work from last week adding three more steps to the flight already installed and placing a length of revetment further along the path to shore up the banking.
Fight of steps completed, revetment installed and path widened. |
Completed job - reverse angle.
Photo of steep narrow path before we started work. |
