SLACK - WIDDOP ROAD, & HEPTONSTALL

Ian V & Stella repaired and improved the waymarking on Widdop Road to the footpaths across Popples Common and down to Hardcastle Crags.  We cut back some bushy laurel from the path to the Crags and investigated a drainage problem of water running off the Common onto the road.

Wonky post....

...straightened

Path onto the Common....

.....now clearer

Spring on its way

Welcome to Popples Common!

Breathe in....
...breathe out

The  totally choked drain along the side of the road here needs clearing out.  This is a very big job and the water is affecting the road not the footpath.  We concluded that this is a job for Highways not CROWS.

We went on to survey the Heptonstall path running north-west
The vertiginous path at Heptonstall
along the escarpment at the top of Eaves Wood.

This has become very narrow in places with a steep drop to one side and a particularly dodgy stretch requiring a somewhat dangerous manoeuvre across a slanting stone "step".

The path in general needs widening and cutting back.
At the stone step it needs some "excavation" back towards the wall to see how best to improve the situation.
We shall return to this in the near future.

Our work  today was funded by Heptonstall Parish Council.
