BLACKSHAWHEAD Dark Lane part 4

Dark Lane is a really useful well-used bridleway running West from Lower Rawtonstall. Previous visits involved scraping and uncovering stretches of causey stones. That work has certainly improved the route, but after recent heavy rain we identified a few stretches that needed further attention.

Billie, Rich and Neil (his first session with CROWS) set about widening the edges of the path, further scraping and laying some pieces of the old causey stones in the gaps.

Widening the path and creating a stone edge to walk on

We then went on to Hippins to re-seat a broken post and investigate a drainage issue.

This is an 'ex post'! - rotten at the bottom, missing a flag and almost unreadable

This path junction on the Calderdale Way is quite important so we will put in a low replacement post next week.

The drainage problem, resulting in a lot of water flowing across the path going up to White Windows, is created by a blocked land drain in the adjacent field. We will need to talk to the landowners about how to solve this.

Work today was funded by a local donation.
