Today we replaced two more steps as shown here...
At the same time we cleared and widened the steps lower down so as to make this a much easier climb.
We then moved a little way upstream to the millpond beside Castlegate, where a permissive path goes round the dam that separates the millpond from the river. There are two wooden footbridges, one over the outlet to the mill and one over the overflow weir. Each of the footbridges had been reported to have one broken slat, but a closer look revealed several more slats in poor condition. In fact, we replaced four slats on each bridge. As we went round the path we cut back the encroaching brambles and small trees so as to make it a much easier walk.
