BAITINGS & BLACKSHAW

Mick and Frank H working today in two areas:

1. Beyond Baitings: Knave Holes Hill - 'A Chiller in the Mist'

Knave Holes is the rising ground beyond the power lines west of Baitings Reservoir and north of the Rochdale Road.

Despite the forecast, the day started cold with very poor visibility and thin drizzle! The task was to re-instate and add to the sequence of poles marking the path that leads up to the Turvin Road /Great Manshead route.

Fortunately, after a couple of hours the mist cleared sufficiently to make a photography a possibility . . . although a marker post is not the most exciting of subjects!

. . . it's behind you!
One post in ... 7 to go!

It was a morning session that needed navigational familiarity with the area and sufficient strength to wield Mick's ultra heavy bar . . . you'll have to guess how these requirements were allocated!

2. Blackshaw Head: in the wilds beyond Daisy Bank Clough

By the afternoon in a remarkable turn around of conditions, the mist had gone, the drizzle had stopped, the sun was out and skies were blue!
In a flurry of activity, marker poles were added to the narrow, uneven, moorland path beyond Daisy Bank Clough; a plan was devised for a stream crossing and, on return to the depot, timber was prepared so this work could begin on Friday. No pictures were taken but some will be on Friday . . . depending on the weather!
