TODMORDEN: (Walsden) Cranberry Dam

Cranberry Dam: Steps! the final session

It was another increasingly warm day for Ray and Frank H to work on the steps in this sheltered, sunny location. This was the final session to build a set of steps leading in and out of a steep-sided, muddy gully. Today we added four steps to the top of the South Bank flight and one extra step nearer stream level to the North Bank flight.

Very rocky ground conditions made it an energetic exercise but, as the pictures show, the outcome should reduce erosion and provide a safer route for walkers.

In the afternoon we carried some equipment to the site of next week's task:- minor repairs to a ladder stile, the construction of a two-step stile over a stock fence and the installation of a marker post. The two-step stile needs to be built without compromising the stock fence - an interesting challenge for (probably) Ken and Frank H.

Today's work was sponsored by The Crook Hill Windfarm Community Fund.
