Cranberry Dam:- Steps again!
Paul, Nick and Frank H formed this week's 'STEPS-R-US' trio to work on improving access into and out-of a deep gully. The conditions were similar to those of last Wednesday - fine, sunny weather; a sheltered, calm location and good views up to the wind turbines and down to Cranberry Dam.
Mick C, the Todmorden CROWS guru, has been monitoring progress and is well pleased with our efforts. Occasionally he sends one of his agents to make sure we are not slacking (as if!) but they are all far too easily recognised, as this picture shows:
*One more step added to the North bank of the gully so the steps blend seamlessly into the top path.
*A series of steps added to the South bank.
*Some landscaping and consolidation of step tread areas carried out.
*Stream crossing and access to lowest step improved.
The densely compacted shale made digging out the step profiles, driving pilot holes for the stobs and hammering home the stobs very tiring work but gradually, and rather elegantly, the steps crept ever upwards . . .

One more session should finish this work which is being supported by the Crook Hill Windfarm Community Fund.
