HEBDEN BRIDGE - Riverside path at Salem

A couple of weeks ago we received a report of a collapsed edge on the riverside path. Since then the collapse has got worse, so immediate action was needed.

The edge of the path undermined by the stream

After an inspection and a measure, Ginny and Rich went to secure the edge with revetment.

We discovered that the reason this section was washed away was the retaining wall alongside the stream was also washed out.

Securing the revetment

As well as constructing and back filling the revetment, we rescued many of the old wall stones to build some protection for the banking.

The end result

We will need to keep an eye on this job to see if the stream after rain is still washing it out.

Thanks to the local resident who spotted this as it would have become a bigger problem if left.
