TODMORDEN - Cranberry Dam

Ken and Frank S were on the Todmorden Centenary Way above Ramsden Wood, Walsden. There are four or five interpretation boards that have survived for 20 years, but they are now in need of care and attention. The plywood backing boards are disintegrating and the perspex covers are scratched and cracked.

Two boards were done last week, and this week we tackled two more. The procedure is to take the board off the pair of legs, and remove the backing, the text, and the perspex cover from the frame. Then reassemble it with the new backing and the new perspex. Fortunately the legs, the frames, and the text are all in good condition and can be reused.

Here's Ken fixing the hinges that hold the plywood backing in the frame.

This is the finished result. In this light, the board looks completely white, but it's actually an interesting history of the old ruined farmhouse nearby.

We then moved along the track to the next board where we followed the same procedure, except that this time it was inspected for quality by Mick.

Earlier, Mick had been installing waymark posts further down the hillside near to where we were working on stiles last week. He was ably assisted by Rich, who happened by chance to walk past at just the right moment. His GPS system ensured the waymarks were put in the correct place.

These tasks were supported by the Crook Hill Windfarm Community Fund.

Surprised to see people hard at work when out walking in this great area - couldn't resist some action photos.
