Frank S and Stella worked on the Todmorden Centenary Way at Burnt Acres, Eastwood - see below.
Graham L and Rich did another stretch of widening on the riverside path from the Blue Pig.

| Wide enough to put in new edging |
At the same time we measured up the length of revetment needed to stabilise the path. Thanks to two generous donations - one local and one from the Blue Pig - we are only £60 short of what's needed to complete the path. It would be great if you can donate through this JustGiving link.
We then went on to the Todmorden Centenary Way path at Holmecoat Lock to do two jobs.
There was a narrow section of path above a steep bank where the revetment had collapsed and was making it difficult to get past. We widened the path and levelled it, so that it's now quite usable.

The waymark post at a junction of paths was out of the ground. It is back in ... albeit a little shorter!
Behind the post we secured one of the Woodcraft Folk posts that had come adrift.
The Big Scrape
Then on to join Stella and Frank at the other end of the path at Burnt Acres. This is a very old and delightful level track running parallel to the canal to Holmecoat Bridge - probably predating the turnpike. It goes through some lovely woodland and therein lies the problem. The pounded stone surface has been covered in leaves for more than twenty years and has covered parts of the path in thick layers of sloppy mulch.
We scraped several small stretches and then found a long section where the mulch was up to a foot deep.
Rich went off for a stroll along the entire length of the path to cut back the trees and brambles that were causing obstructions, and so he only had bit of time for scraping. But he did manage to get a photo of the others hard at work....
| Synchronized scraping! |
We reckon the rest of the path will need another session, which we will do in the next couple of weeks.
This work was funded out of the new Todmorden Centenary Way Maintenance Fund we have created. We had a donation last week so were anxious to get cracking.
Our website explains how the fund will work. and how you can make a donation.
