Later this year, Friends of Calderdale Countryside are publishing a new leaflet of walks around Barkisland. CROWS surveyed the three routes in 2020 so it was great to be making a start on the work today.
Eleanor, Ginny, Graham L and Rich worked on the lovely path above Sandyfoot Clough
The urgent issue was that the path edge had started crumbling in one place with a very steep drop off the edge down into the stream.

The path edge is now secured by adding revetment |
The second problem was encroaching holly, brambles and tree saplings which have now been cut back.
The third problem was that the path being narrow and sloping in some places needed widening and levelling.

A few stretches of path widening in progress |
We then went on to look at a drainage problem in the field above only to find that the landowner had mainly sorted it (and put up their own distinct waymarking and installed dog gates on the two stiles).

The landowner's delightful bridge and waymarking |
Today's work was funded by Ripponden Parish Council (and many thanks to the landowner)
