Chiserley above Old Laithe
A fine and sunny day for Paul and Frank H to work on the path above Old Laithe. CROWS have visited this site before to install steps and improve the drainage. However the torrential downpours in recent years have again taken their toll. Work funded by Wadsworth Parish Council.
Here's a 'before' picture:
Path heavily scoured out across its width. Some steps that CROWS put in about three years ago are still in place (just visible in picture) but all around them has been washed away.
The plan was to remove the steps and then create a drainage channel to the left of picture leaving the right hand side as a path.
Some time later.
Steps removed. Not easy as they were very well constructed in the first place! Mmm! Blame Paul and Frank!
Revetment rail in position to stabilise one side of the path and to act as a flow guide for rainwater. Pilot holes for the stobs took considerable effort . . . resistant ground conditions is the technical term!
Towards the end of the session.
Path levelled and landscaped.
Drainage channel cleared and linked into existing channel at lower end of picture.
Channel extended up the slope in preparation for further revetment.
Overall an excellent session - hard work in ideal conditions with a good outcome ... and with the unexpected bonus of a brew of tea from the nearby farmhouse! Many thanks.
