Sometimes working on paths we realise how skillful the original builders of these routes were. The track down from Jack Bridge has elaborate drainage systems to prevent hillside water destroying it. So far, given its age, it is doing pretty well.
Nick, Frank S and Rich were out today to do some routine maintenance on the drainage system before the winter. Doing drainage whilst it is pouring with rain has benefits and drawbacks!
On the way up the track we dealt with some steps that had been reported - they certainly needed clearing.

Not a bad before and after! |
We then worked our way up dealing with blocked grips, silted up turnbys and clogged drains.

A blocked up grip cleared and now able to take water off the track |
A stone turnby drain cleared of silt and debris (we did 8 of these!) |
One of the underground drains |

A clogged up side-drain cleared and running |
We had a problem with one drain for which we couldn't find the outlet. A second visit will be needed to fix that and to complete work higher up.
