CRIMSWORTH DEAN

Crimsworth Dean (near Outwood Farm)

Paul, Fred and Frank H again formed a team that could be easily transported in Paul's reliable and robust vehicle, to within walking distance of the delightfully isolated Outwood Farm.

The main job involved working behind the farm on the path that runs in the direction of Lumb Falls. This route is increasingly popular with walkers, runners and those curious about the life and poetry of Ted Hughes. The tasks were to widen the path and add steps at a particularly slippery point.

Here's a picture of where we started:

Difficult to spot in this picture, but path is steep, narrows
and has an awkward camber.
By lunchtime some progress has been made:

Steps in place

Path widened and levelled

In the afternoon as the rain became more persistent, we widened further lengths of the path and improved the landscaping.

Path landscaped and Paul
 in full digging mode.
Sides of steps landscaped, and tread
areas consolidated and graded.

There's more to do in this area, but today's work was funded by Huddersfield University as part of the Ted Hughes' Crimsworth Walk project.
