MIDGLEY

Gerald and Nigel out today.
On Bridleway (Sowerby Bridge 25) above Oats Royd Mill where Pin Hill Lane joins Delph Hill Lane a finger post had come out of the ground but was re-usable. Sounds simple enough as a task, but it took 3 or 4 attempts to get a reasonable hole into the ground. Having lost its "finger" we decided to cut it down and make it a simple vertical post which had the advantage of reducing its height and bulk to reduce the chance of it falling over again. The final result was sturdy enough but we added some stone around the base just in case, and the siting allows access to the field at the side.

Looks to have a lean, but its the tree that leans.

Unbelievably that took us to lunchtime, but we decided then to clear some of the brambles down the bridleway from the above photo. A never-ending job at this location but worth doing regularly as the brambles are starting to invade the boundary walls.
