Several teams in action today
Ian and Nigel went to finish the job started last week on footpath 70 (Todmorden), a path which ventures into one of the few large conifer plantations in the area. We carried out some repairs around the stile at the lower end of the site just off Carr Lane and then moved on to the stile at the top end of the site where the path leaves the plantation for the the open moors, close to the new windfarm.
The above photos show that before we commenced the steps were deeply hollowed out creating a trip hazard from the risers. The upper treadboard of the stile was rotten and the finger post also needed some attention.
By the time we had finished, there was a new treadboard with a new leg, the steps were cleared of vegetation and infilled so as to be level with the top of the risers, and the finger post was cleaned so that it was legible.
We then moved up to the stile at the top of the plantation, where we had fitted some new treadboards to the stile the previous week, to make a start on a dog gate alongside the stile. Unfortunately, ground conditions dictated the only place where we could get a post into the ground for an upright (the yellow topped post). However when it is finished, it should be accessible to use by the very widest of canines! We shall return next week to complete the dog gate and to add some additional waymarking in the area.
With the vertical post carrying the dog gate, the above photos should give an idea of how the dog gate may end up in appearance-to be continued next week!
