BLACKSHAW HEAD AND HEBDEN BRIDGE

Two teams out today:

Team 1: Hebden Bridge - The Hanging Gardens of Hangingroyd.

Frank H and Fred continued with step construction. The following picture shows where we had got to last week.

Start of the day: three steps already in place

Heavy rain during the last week had done absolutely nothing to soften the ground! However, by using the heaviest bar (to make deep pilot holes) and lots of 'grunt', construction progressed. The following show the work at various stages during the day.

Just after lunch.
Towards the end of the day.

All-in-all an energetic session with technical decisions to make over angle, gradient and 'sweep' of the steps. For this section there is one additional step to construct before a small platform is installed. From the latter a linear flight of steps can be built:- aka more hammering at the iron ground and lots of head scratching! Watch this space!

These steps have been funded by local residents.

Team 2: Blackshaw Head

4 of us today, working on 2 sites.

Dick and Mick strimmed a large high altitude section which a previous work party had waymarked and made a path diversion, as agreed by the council and landowner.
It was tough going but the route is now clearer. Sorry no after pictures.

Another fine mess you got me in!

This work was funded by Calderdale Council Highways dept

Gerald and Stella excavated a rotten bridge and some (not rotten) steps at the stream crossing in the rather secret and delightfully overgrown Daisy Bank Clough. We rebuilt the little bridge, uncovered the steps,  fettled up the waymark posts and opened up the path a bit.  This work was funded by CROWS and more work to do here on Friday to clear the line of the path, and repair the stile where the path leaves the track at Daisy Bank.

Is this a bridge...?

...and does the path really go through there?
