CARR AND CRAGS MOOR, TODMORDEN
2 teams in action today
The first team did various waymark and stile repair tasks on footpath Todmorden 70 at Carr and Craggs Moor above Portsmouth, Todmorden.
Gerald, Eleanor, Mick, Ian and Nigel set off up the hill from Carr Lane in glorious sunshine. Rain was forecast for 2 pm, but arrived much earlier so the afternoon work had to be abandoned. We shall return!
Digging the hole for a post for the new lower step:- this turned out to be the easiest task of the day!
Photo taken after inserting the lower step (seen above) to avoid the previously awkward high clamber on to the stile.
Adding a dog-gate to the right-hand-side (in front of where Ian is standing) was much more difficult. We managed to get a post (yellow topped) into the ground to our satisfaction, but only at the third attempt due to previous failures with boulders below the surface.
The rain then defeated us as ground conditions became too slippery. An extra hazard was a excess of barbed wire but we tied this back to reduce the risk to users of the stile. We shall have to return to complete the dog-gate when conditions are better (apologies to dogs in the meantime!) .
