Lynda, Eleanor, Rich and Bernard tackled several really duff stiles on some lovely paths in the area above Baitings Reservoir.
Stile 1 was a decrepit ladder stile. Lynda and Eleanor fitted two new struts only to find that the uprights on the far side were so rotten that it was likely to break if someone used it. So we had to undo the improvements and report the stile to Calderdale - frustrating.
 |
It looked promising to repair .... |
Lower down the path, stile 2 was just a whole lot of rotting wood nailed together - very difficult to get over. Bernard and Rich put in a two step stile
 |
Not a pretty sight |
 |
Still not that pretty but a lot easier to get over |
Next door to stile 2 an ancient gate was in danger of collapsing. A fine system of securing the gate with bent four inch nails was perfected - will last for ages!
 |
It ought to be listed as a grade 2 structure - highly distressed! |
Stile 3, lower down on the path was very difficult to cross due to barbed wire. Rich and Bernard improved the barbed wire covering and put in a cross rail. need to go back and put in a second step.
 |
It may be a high climb at the moment, but should not get caught by barbed wire. |
Stile 4 on the road to Long causeway had no tread boards to cross it. Lynda and Eleanor ..............
First off apologies for quality of photos - think I need to get the lens cleaner out , but they give a gist of the job
No tread boards at all , so ......
Found a finger post sign in the ditch , so re-instated it - not perfect but better...
Done !!
All the work was funded by CROWS.
