THREE SITES AROUND TODMORDEN

Three teams building steps today.

Bernard and Eleanor were working on Todmorden 141 at Allescholes Road

We put in 3 steps on a very steep slippery slope just below where a set of steps had been installed last year. Hopefully it'll make the descent in particular slightly less precarious .

Nearly done! For the eagle-eyed among you, you may notice a different sort of stob on the lowest step to the right! We were one short so Eleanor did a bit of coppicing of a silver birch and fashioned a 'natural stob' . Great thinking Bernard!

There may be one or two steps needed further down the path but not urgent at present.

Ginny and Rich worked on Todmorden 186 above Frieldhurst, Cornholme.

After carrying all the tools and timber nearly up to Shore steps, we 'discovered' that the site was much further down the hill - not a good start to the day!

The path had previously been worked on but needed three steps putting in to finish it.

Before we could start we had to deal with a blocked drain overflowing on to the work site.
Even though we sorted it, the site was still incredibly slippery with Rich making some spectacular falls.

Anyway, steps were put in and filled with stone.

Slippy slope

After steps and revetment put in.

This is a lovely hillside, with some great paths. We did notice that the waymarking was pretty poor, so we need to go back and deal with this.

Great thanks to the kind woman who helped back down the hillside with the tools.

Mick and Jess worked on Todmorden 141 a path from the Walks around Walsden leaflet.

Bit of a mess

Steps all broken

New steps put in

Jess and Mick look pretty pleased with their work!
