BURLEES WOOD, HEBDEN BRIDGE, MYTHOLMROYD

2 teams out today

Ken, Alistair, Frank S and Nigel went to repair some stiles and clear vegetation from footpaths around the Burlees Wood area of Hebden Bridge.

Stile on path HR 017 with rotten uprights which required replacing

Stile on path HR 017 which permitted dog access by the ingenious raising of a timber post hinged onto an upper bar but was difficult for all but the very tiniest of humans to use

"Drunken" stile on path HR 018. The lean makes it impossible to step onto the treadboard without leaning the same way as the stile. We lacked tools and timber to rectify this and will have to return

Path clearance work was required to clear as much as possible of a large tree branch which had fallen onto the footpath, a very rampant holly bush and other areas of over-enthusiastic vegetation

The first stile now with new uprights

The solution to the dog gate stile was to add a step and flat mounting stones to the side of the dog gate so as not to interfere with the access for our canine friends

We did not get a photo of the clearance work but managed to clear the worst of the tree branch before it started raining heavily.

Meanwhile Gerald, Peter and Ginny worked on the path running from the top of Daisy Bank along the edge of Broadhead Clough.  The heather had almost concealed the path in places and part of it was slipping away down the steep slope.

First the revetment had to be put in place manually - always check that there are drill bits in with the drill before carrying it all that way!

Luckily we had a bag with us to collect soil from below to infill the path.

And now it is much safer, though there is still more work that could be done.

We also managed to cut back much of the heather - just before the rain came and coats were needed.

Now a good wide path
All the work today was funded by CROWS
