DAISY BANK, MYTHOLMROYD

One team out today, but split into two sub-groups working on Daisy Bank.

It's a long carry from Park up past the moss-covered ruins of Daisy Bank Farm to the right-of-way!

Bernard and Frank H (on a rare Monday outing!) constructed steps where the path led into the woodland. Here's the path:- much steeper than it looks, having a slippery clay surface and a tangle of ruined stock fencing on one side.

Path before work started.
Some time later.

Ruined fence wire removed (thanks, Ginny) and six steps in place, but still some in-fill work to do.

The early morning sunshine on Daisy Bank (possibly a corruption of Day's Eye?), apart from a brief sleet flurry at lunchtime, lasted well into the afternoon to give pleasant working conditions.

Eventually after scouring the hillside for small stones, the step treads were in-filled and we could stand back and admire. Here's a 'before' and 'after' comparison.

There's more to do here. That's the problem with step work:- as soon as you improve one section, adjacent stretches, by comparison, look unstable and slippery! We think we will be back next week!

Jess (first session) and Ginny were unable to add a waymark to the post at the very bottom of the path because the old post was lying on the floor! (it will be reinstalled later)
However, they scraped some of the mud off the first slope as they gradually made their way up to where Frank and Bernard were working.

Jess and Ginny, joined by Rich then worked on the path that runs from the top of Daisy Bank to Broad Head Clough, cutting back the encroaching heather to widen the path.

All cut back

There's more cutting back and some revetment work to do on this section of the path.
