ERRINGDEN MOOR

Dick, Gerald, Graham, Fred, Frank H, RJ, Stella and Stuart were all out today working in various combinations to complete the boardwalks and some associated tasks on Erringden Moor.

For the fourth week in succession Erringden Moor was not the rain-lashed, misty, navigationally challenging bogland that we love so well, but a benign, sunny, fast-drying stretch of cotton grass dotted upland! So no quotes reflecting on murk, mud and mishaps but perhaps instead:-

"See how against the weight in the bone
the hawk hangs perfect in mid-air.
The blood pays dear to raise it there;
the moment, not the bird, divine."
(Envoi:- Kathleen Raine)

A sea of Cotton Grass - a plant that loves bogland - surrounding the boardwalk stringers.

The completed boardwalk. A neat job:- secure, level and safe.

More Cotton Grass:- Snow in Summer.

Stella and Dick putting finishing touches to a boardwalk.

Could this be the final stob? Hooray!

The long view down Erringden Moor. Yes, there is a path there . . . somewhere!

A boardwalk crossing a boggy hole and neatly linking in to the remnants of a 'causey' path.

A final check on levels before the stobs are hammered home.

Resident sheep inspecting the job. You can't pull the wool over their eyes!

A long view of Mr Jackson, taking the long view.

The construction team:- aka the magnificent seven (actually it's eight if you count the photographer!)

The boardwalks are completed. There are still some marker posts to put in place but that's a task for a couple of people next week. For the other CROWS . . .  it's probably Colden and Charlestown.
