CRAGG VALE, BREARLEY, WAINSTALLS, REDACRE

Bernard and Dave did three jobs:

  • Cleared the Penny steps in Cragg Vale
  • Cleared the path from Redacre to Bankfield Estate Mytholmroyd
  • Put an extra rail on a stile at Wainstalls

Rich, Fred and Frank worked on a woodland path from Midgley to Scout Head, Brearley.

This path is in Christopher Goddard's woodland walk book and is being walked in the Walk and Ride Festival. Several section of the path were very difficult to use, with a very steep bank below. Altogether a pretty dangerous path.

Large rock step, but what you can't see is the very steep slope off to the right - scary!

Path made safer by widening, cutting an extra step and adding a 'landing' stone.
One sample section of the path, too narrow, sloping and slippery - an accident waiting to happen

One section of widened path with holly cut back in background

Some 'steps' put in
The path was also cut back all the way along.

There is still more to do, but the most dangerous sections have been dealt with.

On the way home we dealt with some waymarking around Throstle Bower, Mytholmroyd
