Location : Footpath from Heptonstall Road to Hell Hole Rocks

CROWS : Gerald, Eleanor, Lynda and Terry

Task : Siting of marker posts at intersections on the path up to the steps at the

rock face.

Weather : Cold, damp but reasonably pleasant.

This is Post 1 which after a bit of TLC and removal of Xmas trees we thought

was OK as it was.

Post 2 was positioned from scratch.

Using a bar, shovel and shuvholders we managed to dig a hole deep enough. Finding stones to pack around the new post was a problem due to the snow but we managed.

Post 3 was slightly different as we were initially instructed just to clean around the base, wire brush the post and attach the waymarker signs.

However, as you can see as we dug down the post became unstable and as you can see had rotted at the base. We had a committee meeting and decided to replace it with one we had in the car.

This is the new post in situ and being inspected by Eleanor.

This is how it looks now with it's new signage + a Hebden Bridge sign which had been on the old post.

Post 4 was positioned from scratch.

Again using a bar, shovel and shuvholders we managed to dig a hole deep enough.

Post 4 after the signage had been added.

Post 5 was positioned again from scratch.

Again using a bar, shovel and shuvholders we managed to dig a hole deep enough. Finding stones to pack around the new post was a not a problem as the rock face was just to the right.

Post 5 After signage

A few points to note if we are coming back :

1) it might be an idea to check whether other way markers needed to be added to the posts.
2) there is still cutting back to do as it was difficult when most of the vegetation was covered in snow.
3) the steps up to the top of the rock face may need clearing of vegetation once the snow has cleared.
