Location : Mellings Wood, Todmorden
CROWS : Lynda, Trish, Ginny, Mick, Terry, Peter and Gerald
Task : Drainage work on two sites, cutting up of tree across the footpath, repair of handrail across a stream and repair to stream banking to stop erosion.

Weather : absolutely wet, abandoned job at 1.15pm, rain stopped play.

Gerald and Mick took on a tree.................................and the tree lost.

Before and after......................Gerald's side.

Before and after......................Mick's side.

Terry and Peter took on the river.................................the original handrail has been toppled by recent flood waters.

We dug a hole down to bedrock and then hammered stones in to fix it in place.

Here is Peter attempting to fix one end of the rail.

The footpath on the other side of the stream needs a lot of work doing to it to bring it up to CROWS standards.

The bank on the far side of the stream has been undercut so our task was to take stones from the river and stabalise the bank side.

Our idea was to take stones from the stream bed and place them in position to help stop further erosion of the banking.

We will need to come back in the future to continue this work.

Meanwhile, Trish and Lynda started to drain an area of the start of another footpath. As you can see this is a very daunting task. Sadly, Trish slipped and injured herself but after a quick phone call Ginny arrived to continue the work with Lynda.
