After a bit of discussion on the task of the day, Jak, Graham, Jerry and Angus headed up to Longley Lane to continue exposing a stone path which had become overgrown with grass and weeds. The weather was cold but despite the forecast of snow, we completed the day relatively dry and mud free . . . which makes a change!
Today's work was funded by generous donations from the general public. Many thanks.
Highlighted section is the area we worked on today.
The upper section to be cleared.
We originally visited this location to replace a damaged stile with a recycled gate.As part of the work we cleared the path on both sides of the gate and uncovered this pristine stone path. Today, we continued to clear the path, uncovering an impressive 100 m of cobbled and flagged stones which looked as if they had just been laid!
Jerry and Graham getting to grips with Azad's, an impressive end result.
Link section of cobbled path leading to the flagged stone lower section.
Jak taking a well earned break on one of the "turf rolls"
Before and after shots of the lower section of the path. An impressive construction.
Now we've cleared the path, maybe he can get his Land Rover out . . . or maybe not.
There is still about 60 m of path to clear but, as the images show, the results are already impressive. This is a magnificent pathway which shows little evidence of past use. It would be interesting to know more about its history. There seems to be a drain beneath the large flagstones on the lower section of path because water can be seen between some of the gaps. It's more to investigate!
