Another work party on Langfield Common today.
A team of David, Kasher, Neil Mc and RJ returned to work on Tod 157, which goes up from the Shepherds' Rest on Lumbutts Road towards Gaddings Dam and Stoodley Pike.
The tasks were to re-set a stone turnby; replace or add revetments; and continue with drainage improvement to minimise the amount of water running down the footpath.
After a long carry uphill, the team sorted out the repairs to the stone turnby with the help of some 'postcrete'. We will return with some metal pins to help anchor the stonework.
We then replaced the timbers of a deep revetment which seem to have been burned! This new revetment should help to stabilise the path which we have also widened. However, for the moment, it is still extremely muddy and slippery - tread carefully!.
Re-cycled timber from an old revetment was used to make a small revetment adjacent to a difficult area on the path. There is more to do here and another visit is needed to install further lengths of revetment.
On the return down the track, the team worked on a number of smaller drainage issues and deepened the ditches which carry the water off the hillside.
Today’s work was funded by a Calderdale Council Ward Forum grant. Many thanks!
