The plan for today had been to replace an old ladder stile at Nab End. However, with the exposed nature of the site and with the weather predicted to be wet and windy we decided to put this job back a week. Consequently, Linda, Jerry and Angus did some maintenance around the Ryburn depot before heading off to Kebroyd Wood to finish some cutting back, a task which was funded by generous donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
The footpath, which links Millbank with the A58, goes through the beautiful Kebroyd woodland and passes the location of the former Kebroyd Mill. This imposing structure, once one of the biggest mills in the area, was destroyed by fire and eventually demolished in 2006.
Kebroyd Mill in its heyday.
Today's work was along the footpath between the blue arrows.
As we worked our way along the path, it was encouraging to see that some cutting-back of the lower growth had already been done. We concentrated, therefore, on removing fallen tree limbs and any holly or ivy that was encroaching onto the path. If left untouched, such growth would block the path, reduce light and inhibit ground cover.
