Peat and Rich went to sort out three problems:
- A reported tree across the 'coffin path' below Lily Hall at Heptonstall
- A missing section of path below the Heptonstall bowling club
- A waterlogged path above Withens Clough Reservoir.
Today's work was funded by Heptonstall Parish Council and Calderdale Long Distance Walkers.

HEPTONSTALL COFFIN PATH - turned out to be not one tree but four!
Top one

Fallen branch cut back off the path
Fallen birch
![]() |
Fallen birch trimmed and moved back off the path
Fallen Oak
Right across the path making it quite awkward to get around
Smaller branches cleared so can be navigated . . . with some bending!
We will need to come back with the chainsaw to deal with this.
Finally, on the way back to the car, an oak branch had fallen on to the main Heptonstall Road!!

HEPTONSTALL LOST PATH
Pretty impossible to see on the ground, but having tried from both ends, we think we have worked out where this path went - it clearly hadn't been walked for decades! We will need some permissions, but hope to open this up by the end of the year. Sorry no photos!
PATH ABOVE WITHENS CLOUGH
A really useful path but with a number of really bad drainage issues (wellies were required). Initially, some cutting back will be needed and several channels putting in. It is likely that we will need to come back and to install some lengths of boardwalk. Photos will come when we do the work.
