Pennine Way and Dill Scout's Wood
On a reasonably warm, still and dry day, Jan and Steve worked on a few jobs in the area of Jan's house at Shaw Bottom.
The first issue was to remove a large broken bough of an oak tree which had partially fallen in the recent storm over the footpath to Dill Scout's Wood from Shaw Bottom. The branch was precariously perched on a stone wall and on another partially broken branch. This could have been considered to be a chain saw task but Jan and Steve made do with one of CROWS famously sharp bow saws to do the job!
This low hanging bough had been an obstacle for walkers and runners for quite a while but had completely broken and fallen across the footpath in the recent storm.
It's amazing what you can do with a bow saw and a bit of brute strength!
The second task was to clear a short section of the Pennine Way (near Shaw Bottom Farm) which was badly overgrown with nettles, bracken and Rosebay Willow Herb.
Steve tackling the overgrown weeds.
The final result! Foxgloves retained but nettles, bracken and willow herb removed.
The third job was to sort out a stream running down the field on the way to Dill Scouts Wood next to a stone stile in the field. The water course was cleared and additional stepping stones added to make the path across the stream more obvious and much drier.
This work was funded by Blackshaw Head Parish Council - thank you.
