The step replacement task in Scaitcliffe Wood continued today with RJ, Catherine, David and Kasher tackling a variety of tasks to make this route (Tod 082) safer and easier to use.
After the initial chaos first thing in the morning caused by the fire in Todmorden, RJ and David went to the bottom of Scaitcliffe Wood to start the gradual climb upwards to reposition some of the large stone steps which had slipped out of alignment.
Catherine and Kasher went up to Flailcrofft and walked down to the top of the wood to continue the replacement of wooden step risers and the removal of obsolete stobs etc.
We met for coffee and birthday cake half-way up (or was it down) the hill!
This route is becoming safer to use but we still have another 15+ steps to replace plus a revetment to sort out. This will be done in the coming weeks (we hope). Do take care when walking this route as there are many acorns on the track . . . it's rather like walking on marbles at the moment!
Thank you to the residents of Flailcroft who again allowed us to park in their yard. Thanks too to Todmorden Town Council for funding the work on this route.

The steps have been cleared. Some have been turned, others have been packed. It's now a much easier flight to negotiate. |

We are not quite sure (yet) on how to tackle this set of "steps" which have been pushed out of position by the tree (on the LHS). |
