Stella and Kasher spent the first half of today installing new marker posts and firming-up existing posts which had been loosened by the ubiquitous moorland cattle. The second part of the day was spent trying to uncover an overgrown footpath (Tod 009) which is a useful shortcut from Duke Street to Eastwood Lane.
Details:
A new short marker post was added to the footpath above Wet Shaw on Tod 072. The previous yellow topped post seems to have disappeared! We then firmed up the marker posts along the track between Wet Shaw and West End Farm. Both the sheep and the cattle on this moor are delighted with these posts - where else to scratch your back!
The disappearance of Tod 009 had been reported to CROWS (many thanks!). After an initial search, earlier in the week, we managed to locate the marker post (lost in the undergrowth) and identified the start of the wooden steps which lead up the hillside from Duke Street towards Eastwood Lane. We have cut back the vegetation hiding the wooden and stone steps, and have strimmed the first section of the path (from the roadside to the impressive set of stone steps).
This path is now walkable so please add it to your routes around Eastwood. We will be back soon to cut back the invasive brambles and bracken on the upper reaches of this path, and to reinstate the marker post at the roadside.
Today's work has been funded by Todmorden Town Council. Many thanks.
