LUDDENDEN DEAN

Jerry, Andrew and Rich tackled a number of jobs around Luddenden Dean. The jobs were identified as part of a project to revive a Michael Dean walk called 'A Walk around Luddenden Dean'. Two versions are due to be published shortly and will be available to download. A print off version with comprehensive historical information will be on the Luddenden Conservation Society website and a mobile version with summaries of the history will be on the 100 walks page on the 'Heart of the Pennines' website.

Thanks to the Luddenden Mayor's Fund that funded the improvements to this route.

The details

The first stop was at the top of the path that leads down through Spa Wood.

There was an awkward stream crossing that needed improving (although recent dry conditions meant water levels, at the moment, were low).

Where the path comes out onto Wood Lane you couldn't see where the stone stile was, so a yellow top post was put in and a stepping stone added to make the wall-crossing easier.

Then it was on to Upper Mytholm where a path leads down to the river.

The waymark post was hidden and completely rotten. This was replaced.

The path needed cutting back in several places and some widening near steep drops.

The final stop was at Jerusalem Farm

A crucial but virtually invisible 'Calderdale Way' waymark post was replaced.

Upstream, the overhanging holly and brambles were cut back and a waymark added at the bridge.
