HEIGHT ROAD / RAW LANE HEBDEN BRIDGE

Hill House Brink, Height Road Hebden Bridge

The glorious weather continued as Frank S, Guy, Stella, Nick and Paul returned to resume work to upgrade this hazardous, precipitous path that runs diagonally down hill from Height Road to Raw Lane. A previous team of four installed 4 sections of revetment to bolster collapsed banking on the footpath. Today Frank S and Guy focused on building a set of ten steps on a steep treacherous incline while Nick, Paul and Stella installed two further lengths of revetment with some steps. Alongside this latter task Stella and Paul took turns to cut back intrusive prickly Gorse bushes further up the trail. A big thank you to Ian S for transporting the long lengths of timber on his roof rack from the depot to the work site.

The red line indicates the footpath.

Work funded by CROWS donations thank you.

The Detail:
The steep path beforehand

The recent long spell of sunny weather had compacted the earth making it tough to dig out and construct the steps and shore up the banking. In addition the steep uneven surface exacerbated working conditions. Taking time the two 'teams' set about transforming the steep path.

Guy getting down to business!

Frank S 'diggin it!'

An 'elegant' flight of steps were built by Frank S and Guy and some fine line revetment with two steps installed by Nick and Paul / Stella.
Splendid work!

path transformation!

Another length added in

An additional length of revetment was put in place up above another steep section of pathway where steps will be constructed next time out, along with a levelling and landscaping of the area.
Gorse cut back.

Good progress made today. We will return at a future date to continue where we left off.
