TODMORDEN JOBS

Three parties went out today in the interval between two bursts of Storm Darragh.

(1) Catherine and Richard J. went to finish off work at Obadiah Wood (see 29 November).

(2) Stella, Andrew and Neil M. were working near Lobb Mill, Haugh Wood Road.

(3) Mick and Frank did further work on a stile near Naze Farm, above Gauxholme (see separate post)

Today's work was funded by individual donations from members of the public. We can never say too often how much we value these donations, which are an essential source of the finance needed to keep our Calder Valley's massive network of paths walkable. Thank you, and thank you to all donors!

 Todmorden Moor

Teams (2) and (3) first travelled up to Todmorden Moor, where some boardwalks need replacing just South of Tower Causeway, and carried timber to the worksite.

 Lobb Mill

The team first turned L. off Haugh Road, on to a path (Tod 06/177/3) that climbs up and over towards Mankinholes. We added three extra marker posts along the first section of this path where it takes some sharp angles, and we cut back overhanging twigs and some of the rougher vegetation underfoot. We paused to admire a view of the Rochdale Canal enlargement project.

Then back to Haugh Road and up the road itself, past the two big houses, where it stops being a motor road and becomes a very wet path (06/177/2) in the present pluvious conditions. Attention to two turnbyes (cross-channels) was sufficient to greatly reduce the flow of water down the path.
